Freshwaters unveils brand-new building
Posted: 10th March 2021We are set to unveil a brand-new building as our pupils return to the classroom.
For the last few months, building work has been taking place to expand and develop the facilities at Freshwaters Primary Academy.
The extension provides the growing school with its first library, a dance and drama studio, an ICT learning space and a creative space to carry out science experiments and cooking.
The £1,169,000 project also includes an expanded kitchen and staff room, modifications to the existing building and a new multi-use games area.
Pupils were invited to submit their suggestions to name the school’s new block.
Ideas included Chamber of Secrets, Fountain of Knowledge, Fantasia, The Julia Donaldson Building, Secret Kingdom and The Imaginarium.
The winning name – The Hub – came from the Year 5 bubble.
Headteacher Jackie Diggle said: “It is so exciting to see what has been created and the opportunities this will open up for the children. The children decided it should be named The Hub as it is going to be a hub of enjoyment, a hub of education, a hub of imagination and a hub of knowledge.
“Our dance and drama studio has a calm and soothing atmosphere, our creative suite is ready for our pupils to explore and create a wide range of projects and, my personal favourite, an amazing library. This is something we have waited for for a long time! A cosy space full of reading nooks and crannies that will encourage and support our children in their enjoyment of reading books. The beginning of the journey which hopefully will lead to a lifetime of reading passion. Our target now is to fill the library with amazing new books.
“We are very lucky to have such an incredible new building and we cannot wait for all our pupils to start enjoying it.”
Year 5 pupil Freddie said: “This is so good! The library has comfy seats and a quiet den to read in. The studio is perfect for karate. Yay!”
