Summer 1
Reading - We will be reading the book, ‘The Queens Wardrobe”. As part of this, we will be inferring meaning, exploring vocabulary, making predictions, retrieving information also exploring poetry and the different structures of writing.
As well as reading a lot of information texts about the Royal Family, the memorable Monarchs and the Imperial state crown.
As writers - Using ‘The Queen’s Wardrobe’ as a source of inspiration – children will write their own story with descriptions of the clothes that may be in a Queen’s wardrobe also relating to the life of Queen Elizabeth: birth and death, parents, life as a young woman, WW2, marriage, coronation, landmark events (such as jubilees) and sadness (death of Prince Philip)
In Maths- fractions, time- we will be getting out and about our school grounds to help our learning.
Some of the key vocab- Part Whole Half quarter, Numerator Denominator Unit fraction.
Science- we shall be looking at plants, what do we need to grow healthy plants and then finding out about bulbs, and the germination process.
Key Vocabulary – grow, healthy, seed, germinate, shoot, seedling, Bulb growth Food, Seeds, fruit, dispersed light, shade, Sun, warm, cool, water, space, healthy.
History – We shall be focussing on famous queens and creating a biography.
Key Vocabulary –Monarch, reign, duties, timeline, Family tree, generations, sibling, heir, State rooms, ambassadors, role, Empire, inventions, technology, The Great Exhibition, Sources, heir, theatre, Armada, voyages, Compare, contributions, personality, appearance.
Art – we shall be focussing on creating collages, and paintings of the Queen.
In Religious Education – We shall look at who God is for Muslims.
PSHE – In Jigsaw we shall be looking at Trust and Appreciation and why these are very important qualities.
