Year 2 Anansi Spiders & Huckleberry Finns Classes

Reading - We will be reading the book, ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark”. As part of this we will be inferring meaning and looking at different vocabulary that shows us how a character is feeling and behaving.
Our whole class reading sessions will link to aspects of “The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark”. We shall look at different predators and explore how they live.
As writers – We are going to be exploring a range of different structures in our writing, and looking at retrieval. Finding key information from our text. We shall also be looking at the main characters and how they change as we go through the book, focussing on key adjectives and adding detail. We shall look at different sentence types and distinguishing the differences between them.
In Maths- Our main focus will be on addition and subtraction and times tables. We shall learn a range of techniques to help understand different methods to answer both addition and subtraction problems.
Some of the key vocabulary that we shall be using; bonds, facts, related, tens, ones, add, subtract, digit, across, exchange, value, equal, increase, decrease, and compare
Science- we shall be focussing on habitats, living conditions, dependencies, and then looking at food chains, and creating our own one based on an owl.
Key Vocabulary – habitat, home, desert, arctic, rain forest, ocean, herbivore, carnivore, and omnivore.
Geography – we shall become map makers, looking at all of the different types of maps that we can use, and ways that we can create maps, and routes using a key. We shall be using maps and putting them to the test on the outside.
Key vocabulary – Map, route, direction, compass, North, East, South West.
Art – we shall be focussing on the artist and illustrator Jackie Morris and looking at the techniques used with water colours and her love of wildlife. Children will be using these techniques to create their own pictures and illustrations.
Religious Education – We shall be focusing on Christianity and why Christians believe God gave Jesus to the world.
PSHE – celebrating differences and gender stereotypes.
