Race for Life
Posted: 24th June 2015Children, parents and teachers completed an emotional race in support of cancer sufferers.
Freshwaters Primary Academy, in School Lane, Harlow, encouraged its community to take part in Race for Life.
Participants ran, skipped, walked and danced the 1km around the school grounds, many completing the challenge in support or memory of loved ones affected by cancer.
A wall of remembrance gave families an opportunity to write memory cards to dedicate their run to loved ones.
More than £2,400 was raised for Cancer Research UK by the school event.
Janet Lankester, learning mentor, said: “It was wonderful to see so many parents join their children to run and raise money, with many more supporting their child’s efforts by helping them to get sponsorship.
“This cause is close to the hearts of staff, children and other members of our school community.
“We greatly value our supportive families.”
Head of school Marios Solomonides said: “It is important children are aware of illnesses such as cancer and to know their actions make a difference. There are cancers now where more people survive than die. By raising money and awareness, cancer could be eradicated altogether one day.”
