Young politicians pose questions to Suzy Stride
Posted: 29th January 2015Young politicians got to pose their questions to Parliamentary hopeful Suzy Stride.
The Labour candidate visited Year 6 pupils at Freshwaters Primary Academy, in School Lane, Harlow, to explain the world of politics to them.
The visit follows on from Inspiring The Future Week where children were visited by a range of professionals to open their eyes to the world of work.
Year 6 were tasked with researching the role of an MP and, in particular, Miss Stride’s political views.
Marios Solomonides, head of school, said: “Suzy Stride spoke to the children about her ambition to be an MP and everything she has done to get this far.
“She answered pupils’ questions, which they had prepared in advance. They showed they had researched well with one pupil asking Miss Stride’s views on switching street lights off at night.
“It was a fantastic session and showed our pupils that if they want to achieve something, they’ve got to work for it. It is vital our children engage in politics and it is our job as a society to ensure they know how their beliefs and views can shape the future of the country.”
Miss Stride also explained the tax system to pupils and how different political parties have different beliefs.
