Maths Week
Posted: 22nd April 2022These children are literally walking calculators!
Along with their classmates, these pupils indulged in maths for a week.
Maths Week at the school included a day where pupils dressed in outfits linked to the subject – including lots of children dressing as calculators.
During the week, pupils also took part in the Times Tables Rockstars competition to see which class and individual knew their times tables the best.
Head of school Jackie Diggle said “Freshwaters was a hive of activity and challenges all around mathematics!
“Throughout the week, we were very lucky to have some sunny days, which also gave us the opportunity to take our learning outside and take part in some really creative challenges, including orienteering, scavenger hunts, mazes and creating maths board games.”
A Maths Tardis has also been created at the school to be a designated space for pupils to work in as a team on solving maths problems and tackling reasoning questions.
Mrs Diggle said: “Pupils are very keen to complete their work, so they can tackle a maths challenge in the Tardis. What a great way to improve their maths skills.
“We wanted to create the interest and enthusiasm for maths which we have already developed for English and reading.”
