The beach comes to Harlow pupils
Posted: 18th June 2019They may be miles from the beach, but children in Harlow are enjoying their own bit of the seaside.
Pupils at Freshwaters Primary Academy arrived at school to find a seaside beach hut had appeared in the grounds.
They each had an opportunity to visit the hut, which features sand, seaweed, seashells, treasure maps and treasure chests to explore.
The project was set up as way of inspiring children to feel excited about writing.
Headteacher Jackie Diggle, who spent her spare time painting and setting up the new attraction, said: “This has been a hook to get the children to produce postcards, treasure trails, poems, stories and some amazing art work. There will be some children who have not been to the seaside, so this way they can see it and experience it and it gives them something to draw on when they write.
“It’s so nice for children to get that immediate excitement when they get to school, especially the younger ones.
“We use books a lot for inspiration, but it’s even better to see something like this in their own environment. It’s really important.”
Pupils have been asked to come up with a name for the new addition to their school.
