Family Fun Afternoon
Posted: 10th July 2015Families from all different backgrounds joined together to celebrate their diversity at a Harlow school.
Freshwaters Primary Academy, in School Lane, was keen to acknowledge the diversity of its families at the end of the school year.
Its first Family Fun Afternoon enabled children to welcome their families into school to enjoy a picnic on the field, with each class organising activities to share with their guests.
Families enjoyed games of rounders, country dancing, mask-making and designing and drawing Rangoli patterns.
Year 6 created marshmallow kebabs and friendship bracelets to sell, while students and teachers from Burnt Mill Academy’s language faculty set up a stall with language-related activities, henna and face-painting.
Pupils also took part in a talent show, demonstrating their musical, singing, dancing and sport abilities.
Marios Solomonides, head of school, said: “All in all, it was a fantastic afternoon filled with laughter, music and families spending time together.
“It felt like a real community coming together and it showed our families how important they are to us. We don’t want them to be on the outskirts of the school; this school belongs to them as much as it belongs to our pupils.”
