Mr Jordan Newborough
Since I was little, I have always had a passion for sport. As a child I was involved in a lot of sports, such as Football, cricket, boxing, and Rugby. Football was my main sport and I dreamt of becoming a professional footballer as many boys do. I was fortunate enough to play at various academies as a youngster including Southend, Leyton Orient and I even had trials for Arsenal. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite make it as a footballer, but I was still very keen to work in a sporting setting when I grew up.
I started my coaching journey at fifteen years old when I became a youth academy coach at Harlow Town Football Club. I have been coaching there for many years and this is where I found my passion for coaching. I found it extremely rewarding watching the team I coach grow, using the skills and techniques I taught them in a game situation. I have seen the team grow into talented, young players which I am very proud of!
After leaving Burnt Mill Academy in 2015, I was keen to return to the school one day in the hope of becoming a PE teacher. During my two-year football scholarship at Ware Academy, I was fortunate enough to do some voluntary PE teaching in some of the primary schools in the local area. This is where I found sporting futures, which is a PE teaching apprenticeship programme. I enrolled in a year-long apprenticeship and was placed in Freshwaters Academy in September 2018, and I have been with the school since. After my year apprenticeship, I was offered my current role of PE coordinator and I was ecstatic. I absolutely love working at Freshwaters, with the amazing team we have.
I believe that there is a sport out there for everyone, and it is my goal to help every child at Freshwaters find their sport before they leave the school, or at least have fun trying to find it. I also aim to ensure that each child gets the opportunity to represent the school in the Harlow School Games before they leave.
When I’m not teaching, I love playing for my football team on the weekends, going on long bike rides with my brother and friends, or walking my two English Bulldogs (well, sometimes they take me for a walk!). I also love to travel and go on lots of holidays, where I spend time with family and friends.
